TRI-CITY SPEEDWAY RAINED OUT FOR THIRD TIME IN 2008

FRANKLIN, PA ... The rain rolled through northern Venango County on Sunday evening shortly before race time, and forced track officials to call the third rainout of the 2008 season.

In fact, the E Mod feature rain delayed from June 8th was on the track about to start when the rain started to fall. With the track too slick to race, the cars were pulled to the pit area. Track officials waited out the rain for about five minutes, but it continued. With the radar showing heavy storms moving in, and a severe thunderstorm warning looming, the decision was made to cancel the show.

Before the rains came, track officials awarded Jon Huff of Oil City, Pa., with his trophy from his Thundercar feature win on June 15th. Huff finished second, but was awarded the win after Cody Manners was disqualified.

"I hate to win one like this," said Huff. "This car is running good, and we have a lot of work to do to catch some of the faster cars."

In addition, Thundercar drivers Bill Baker and Ed Deloe were honored for their Schwab's Ford Hard Charger of the Week awards from June 15th.

Rain checks from tonight's races may be used for the June 29th and July 6th races. Anyone with a McDonald's Restaurant ticket that did not receive a rain check may use that ticket on August 10th only.

As a result of the rainout, several events at the track must be rescheduled. The first William R. Karns Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning Detroit Iron Pro Stock Series event of the season will be run next Sunday June 29th. That same night, Edward Jones Investments Presents its annual Fireworks Extravaganza along with Five-Star Racing featuring the Engles Trucking DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds, 4 Your Car Connection FASTRAK Late Models, RPM Auto Sales/Sherry Shawgo Real Estate E Mods, E.F. Rogers Plumbing & Heating Pro Stocks and Klapec Auto Body Thundercars. The Thundercars will run their rain delayed race from June 8th first on the card.

The E Mod feature that was rain delayed from June 8th was rained out again, and will now be run on July 6th at the start of the show.

McDonald's Kids Night is rescheduled for Sunday August 10th featuring the annual kids bike races.

The first 2008 Tri-City Speedway Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies will be rescheduled for Aug. 17. Another slate of drivers and racing personalities will join Lou Blaney, Ralph Quarterson, Johnny Axe, Jim Magill and Bud Miller in the Hall of Fame, which is organized by former track officials George Stroupe and Bob Graham.

Next Sunday June 22nd, gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Adult grandstand admission will remain at $11 with students (13-15) at $5 and children 12 and under admitted free.
