CASTLE NIGHT RESCHEDULED
By Mike Leone
June 21, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Mercer, PA).Racing action scheduled for Saturday night, June 21 at Mercer
Raceway Park was cancelled for the sixth time this season due to severe
thunderstorms that hit the speedway. The "Racing for the Cure" American
Cancer Society Benefit Night with free admission for cancer survivors has
been rescheduled to Saturday, August 2 and the Free New Castle Night
presented by Augustine's Italian Village and Froggy has been postponed
until Saturday, August 9.
"This ugly trend with Mother Nature just continues," stated 10th year
owner Vicki Emig. "We've now had 13 race events scheduled and all 13 have
been affected by weather. This is the first time we've ever had severe
storms of that magnitude on our doorsteps and everyone did a wonderful job
evacuating and getting to a say place before they hit. It was a shame for
all the cancer survivors and New Castle residents that turned out. We can
now safely say we have raised over $7,500 for the American Cancer Society
and that will just grow by the time we complete the August 2 event. The
Hoover-Booher FASTRAK Late Model team went to work in the last week are up
to over $1,200! It just shows how wonderful the racing community is."
Coming up on Saturday, June 28 will the annual "American Patriot Night"
presented by Walt's of Mercer Plaza. It's a full show of Luxaire Heating &
Cooling Sprint Cars, Tire Express Modifieds, McElwain Motors FASTRAK Late
Models, Big Daddy's Speed Center Mod Lites, and the M&D Paving Mini
Stocks. After sunset a huge fireworks display will be put on. All Butler
County residents will be admitted free presented by McClymonds Supply &
Transit and Armstrong. It's also free admission for all veterans with ID
and scouts in uniform. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 6:15 and
racing at 7.
The fourth open practice will be held Wednesday, July 2. Pit gates open at
4 p.m. with practice 5 p.m. until dark. The rain date is Thursday, July 3.
